Last week, Radboudumc researchers Suzanne de Bruijn, Susanne Roosing, and research technician Florian Winkelaar received two generous donations from the DCMD working group. This group has been committed for many years to advancing research into Dominant Cystoid Macular Dystrophy (DCMD), a hereditary retinal disorder found within a large family from the Dutch province of Brabant — and one that is virtually unique worldwide.
In late 2023, Suzanne and Susanne organized an information day for this dedicated family to share the latest research developments. The event inspired family members to take action themselves, organizing a benefit concert and a fundraising campaign through the employee association of the Province of Limburg.
Their efforts culminated in the presentation of two donation cheques totaling €9,641, handed over to the researchers by the family. A meaningful contribution to ongoing research aimed at identifying the genetic defect and gaining a deeper understanding of the disease’s progression.
